What is Galentine’s Day? A Guide to the Best Made Up Holiday

What is Galentine’s Day exactly? To be perfectly honest, I had to google its origin because I had no idea where it came from. Was this another ramification of Hallmark the way they’ve pushed chocolate and overpriced teddybears onto us for Valentines Day (ahem – another made up holiday)? Or, perhaps it was a result of Instagram — you know, like National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day? However, it turns out, just like so many other cultural phenomenons, it started on an episode of Parks and Rec in 2010. In the episode, on Valentine’s Day eve, Leslie and her gals all leave their husbands and boyfriends behind, meet over brunch, and toast to each other. What’s a better tradition than that? Pass the mimosa, girll.

I’m so glad it stuck around because I honestly can’t think of anything better than celebrating all the friendships in your life! After all, your BFFs have been there through the good, the bad, and the ugly (looking at you, ugly crying face).

HOW SHOULD I CELEBRATE GALENTINE’S DAY?

If you’re living with your BFF, or have a quarantine bubble, there are so many fun ideas you can do to celebrate your friendship!

COOK

There’s nothing more fun (in my humble opinion) than to cook with your friends. Baking pies, cookies, or a huge pasta dinner is a great way self care and celebrate. Get dressed up, or stay in your favorite robe, and set the table!

HAVE AN AT HOME SPA DAY

Who doesn’t love an at home day of being pampered? Especially these days where spas aren’t exactly where we’re all congregating. Grab your robe, your most comfortable slippers, and pour yourself a bottle of wine. Give yourselves the ultimate day of relaxation!

Shop Hair Masks

Shop face masks

Shop an at home manicure

Shop Exfoliating Body Scrub

Shop Robes

HOST A VIRTUAL GAME NIGHT

If you need to keep the celebration virtual this year, there are plenty of ways to celebrate! Host a game night with all your friends. These days so many in-person games have gone virtual.

You know that cringe worth game that everyone loves, Cards Against Humanity? Well now you can play on zoom.

Bingo is not only for granny and her crew. Download a virtual bingo card and raffle off a prize for the winner for when you can all be together again.

One of your favorite childhood games, Guess Who, is now virtual. Each player has a character and the opposing player must guess who they are.
